Sacrificing safety for density

Washington’s building code is under pressure to lower safety standards for stacked housing. Some groups want to treat multi-unit buildings like single-family homes to cut costs sacrificing safety for density. But these measures mean less fire protection, weaker infrastructure, and higher risk for residents. Just because you live in stacked housing doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to be safe. If you believe more housing shouldn’t mean less safety, now is the time to speak up.
