Ballard fought its light rail delay. Where's Kirkland's fight?
When Sound Transit sidelined Ballard's light rail extension, Councilmember Dan Strauss didn't simply accept the outcome. He publicly challenged the recommendation, called the project "on life support," and successfully pushed the Sound Transit Board to require a firm timeline for when Ballard would finally be served.
Now compare that to what's happening with South Kirkland.
Our regional connection has also been pushed aside — yet where is the same sense of urgency? Where is the public insistence that Kirkland receive a clear timeline and a commitment that our community won't be left behind?
Whether you supported Sound Transit or not, this isn't really about rail. It's about representation.
When major regional decisions are made, residents deserve elected officials who are willing to fight for their communities, ask hard questions, and insist on accountability — not simply accept delays as inevitable.
Should Kirkland's leaders be pressing for the same level of commitment Ballard is demanding? If you think so, — it takes about three minutes.
