Tell Kirkland City Council: Arete as written doesn’t make sense
The Arete affordable housing agreement was discussed on August 5th and as currently negotiated does not accomplish its own goals. It does not protect affordability for one, two and three-bedroom units. These are, per the city’s own findings (packet page E186) the most desirable in todays market and most at risk for rent increases. Conversely, the EcoFlats the agreement does protect already rent at below 60% AMI with no covenant at all. As written, this agreement accomplishes nothing.
